During a summer 2019 residency at Alice Yard in Port of Spain, Trinidad, I made a two-act play called 1 I 2 Ü. For prop signs, I commissioned Bruce the Sign Man from nearby Arima to translate my words in his inimitable but much-copied style. As the play crosses several themes in my work, they fall under various categories -- but these are specifically geared to the fundamental argument of the play, which is about who is in control, and whether society is a bunch of individuals or a collective effort.
